Business Ethics at CityLife Church

To ensure the church remains a safe-haven from business pressures when participating in church activities and relating to one another, the church has developed guidelines for the conducting of business within the church community. Business is not evil, nor is it to be expressly excluded from the church; however, it must be conducted within appropriate guidelines so as not to negatively influence the Christian nature of our church community.

These guidelines have been developed from the biblical perspective of having Christian character qualities of integrity, honesty and love in every aspect of life and so we ask that all business dealings are conducted with these qualities as paramount.

Our general rule of conduct would be ‘Let the church be the church and let business be kept in the business arena’. Therefore, we ask that people attending CityLife Church activities (such as celebration meetings, cell meetings, events, etc) do not use these activities for any business-related purposes. This would include:
  • Not approaching people in the church community with the intention of making a financial gain or to sell or promote products or services. This specifically includes distribution of advertising material, invitations, e-mail messages and/or phone calls for the purposes of soliciting business, party-plan selling, multi-level marketing and network marketing.
  • Refraining from seeking professional advice or making business enquiries at any church activities.
  • Product deliveries should not be made in the church building or at church activities.
From time to time, CityLife Church will promote certain business activities and products where it is considered that these are primarily for the benefit of members and other attendees. The activities will include, but not be limited to Bookshop, Café, Conferences (including promotional material within policy guidelines), product/resources by visiting ministries, services provided by Knox Community Care and Waverley Christian College.

CityLife Church will provide appropriate forums for business people to meet and network within the activities arranged by CityLife Business Leaders.

A complete copy of the Business Ethics Policy Statement can be obtained from the church office or the Information Desk.
